![]() In the midst of so much mass extinction, it is encouraging to know that people are working to save some of our most threatened species. One species greatly endangered is the rhino. Rhinos are killed largely for their horns. Some sub-species of rhinos are gone, but the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which I visited earlier this month, has given us hope. Take a look at this sweet article about saving rhinos. Remember that tonight is Discovery's new series Serengeti! https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/30/us/southern-white-rhino-birth-scn-trnd/index.html The Serengeti is a part of Africa located mainly in Tanzania and extends into south-western Kenya. It is about 12,000 sq miles and is home to some of Africa's most famous animals. I was more than a little delighted when I learned that the Discovery Channel has a new series called Serengeti and it will feature the wildlife in that region. When I was seven years old there was a program called Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. That program was my first look at live giraffe. Animal programs went out of style in the early 70's and now, in 2019, we have people "game hunting" for thousands of dollars. Perhaps if they could see these beautiful animals in their natural environments they would be less inclined to kill them for sport. I hope everyone will be watching with me when I tune in on August 4 (two time slots- 5pm and 8pm) for the first episode "Destiny." For more information check out the link below: https://www.xixentertainment.com/press/2019/02/12/discovery-channel-us-announce-serengeti/ A male giraffe actually tests the urine of female to determine fertility. That's what's happening here, but his face? Who knows what they think? Thank you to Sara and all those who attended the presentation at the Bandon Library. It was a joy to share my journey and meet with such engaging people.

When Toto sang “Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus,” I heard “Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like an Empress.” Either way, I ended up climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. |
